DU to celebrate symbolic ‘Mangal Shovajatra’

The Dhaka University (DU) will celebrate Mangal Shovajatra, a mass procession that takes place at dawn on the first day of Bangla calendar, this year.

 

DU authorities on Monday took the decision at a virtual meeting held at the university’s Abidul Matin virtual classroom.

 

A press release of the DU public relation offuce signed by Mohammad Rafikul Islam, confirmed the matter.

According to the release, ‘Bangla Naba-Barsha-1428 and symbolic Mangal Shovajatra will be celebrated this year on the campus in a limited range due to covid-19 situation.’

‘On the occasion, a hundred men colourful Mangal Shovajatra will be organized at Fine Arts Faculty Chattar which will be confined there. In this case, participants have to maintain health guidelines and social distance properly,’ the release added.

 

DU Vice chancellor (VC) Professor Dr Muhammad Akhtaruzzamn presided over at the meeting while PRO-VC (administration) Professor Dr Muhmmad Samad, Treasurer Professor Momtaz uddin Ahmed, Fine Arts Faculty dean Professor Nisar Hossain and among others were connected.

 

In the meeting, the authorities emphasised on avoiding mass gathering on the occasion of new year celebration and urged not to attended in the event physically.

 

They also urged to the concerned not to set any fair or shops on the occasion of Naba-barsha at the situation.

 

Notably, the event will be live broadcasted on television channel this year.
