MLM business cannot be done under e-commerce.

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi has said that multi-level marketing (MLM) or network business cannot be conducted under digital e-commerce. He made the remarks while addressing a meeting on Tuesday (July 6) at the Secretariat of the Commerce Ministry to discuss the issuance of a virtual ‘Digital e-Commerce Operation and Guidelines-2021’ from the conference room.

 

The commerce minister said drugs, explosives, or any other prohibited goods or services cannot be bought and sold under digital commerce. Gambling or online betting or online gambling cannot be organized or participated in.

 

It also said that digital commerce companies cannot organize any kind of lottery without the prior approval of the government. Multi-Level Marketing (MLM) or Network Business cannot be conducted.

 

He said that “Digital Commerce Management Guideline 2021” has been formulated for the smooth management of a digital business. It was published in the form of a government gazette on July 4.

 

This digital commerce management guide has been developed based on the views of government and non-government organizations and stakeholders.

 

Detailed explanations are given regarding purchase-sale, general rules, presentation for the sale of goods or services in the marketplace, product delivery, advance payment price adjustment, etc. Which will be helpful for customers.

 

The word “not in stock” must be clearly written on the side of the product unless it is under the control of the seller or the person or organization contracted with him. “Available for Delivery” should be written instead of the quantity of stock in the case of goods and services which cannot be expressed in daily commodities and food items or numbers.

 

However, up to 100 percent advance can be accepted through the escrow service approved by Bangladesh Bank. The product must be handed over to the deliveryman or delivery company within 48 hours of the full price of the product displayed for sale and the buyer must be notified by telephone, e-mail, or SMS.

 

General Secretary of Bangladesh Bank, representatives of various government departments, President of e-CAR Shami Kaiser, representatives of various associations took part in the function conducted by Commerce Secretary Tapan Kanti Ghosh.
