Passenger pressure to increase on waterways this Eid: State Minister Khalid

The pressure on various waterways, including the Paturia-Daulatdia waterway, will increase before and after Eid-ul-Fitr this year, said State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury.
People have been unable to move freely over the past two years due to the Covid-19 situation. It will be different this time. He recommended that travelers plan their journeys in accordance with government guidelines.
He made the remarks in response to questions from reporters when he visited Paturia ferry ghat in Manikganj and Daulatdia ferry ghat in Rajbari, reports our Manikganj correspondent.
SM Ashiquzzaman, director (operation) of BIWTC, said, "In order to ensure smooth passenger movement, the crossing of ordinary goods carrying vehicles will be suspended for a total of 10 days, five days before and after Eid.
Emergency goods carrying vehicles, on the other hand, will be able to cross alongside passenger vehicles as usual. Commuters should be able to travel in comfort, hopefully."
BIWTC Deputy General Manager Khaled Nawaz said, "On the Paturia-Daulatdia waterway, there are 19 ferries. Before the 20th Ramadan, two more ferries will be introduced on this waterway. Apart from that, the Aricha-Kazirhat waterway is served by three ferries. On this route, a new ferry will be added."
